7:20am

I was doing a little research about using humidifiers
during the winter months and wanted to share
the information with you about what I found.

-Moisturizes your skin.
-Helps to keep from getting a scratchy throat.
-Reduces snoring and can help prevent bloody noses.
-Protects wood furniture and flooring.
-You can turn your thermostat down a couple
degrees because it will make your home feel warmer.
It does not up the temperature of your home though.
-Reduces static electricity.
-Humidity allows tiny hairs in the nose to move and do their job of filtering out bacteria and viruses to prevent colds and flu.
-Air moistened with a humidifier can help soothe some symptoms of colds or flu, including irritation of nasal passages, the throat and bronchial tubes, helping you breath and sleep easier.

I run our humidifier on low most of the time and
notice that it makes the bedroom areas of the house
feel much warmer.  Without it those areas of the house
always feel colder in the winter time.
I have had no more complaints of a scratchy throat
or have had anyone with nose bleeds which
could be common around here this time of year.
I've only had one child get sick for about 3 days
with a cold.  Fixed him up with some Zicam
and Mucinex.  I myself do find that those OTC
products work for us to fight any colds.
They do make store brands of those meds!
Last year I did not have a humidifier and it seemed
like everyone kept getting sick!

The only person who has gotten a flu shot this year
was my hubby.  I do not get them or have my kids get them.
I got the flu shot about 17-18 years ago at work
and ended up with the flu still.
I have decided since then not to get one and
17-18 years later have not had the flu once!
For 8 years the school has been giving out
free flu shots and I don't let the kids get them.
They (knock on wood) have not gotten the flu either.
And believe me lots of sickness goes around the schools.
Why not let the body at young ages try to
build up it's immune system naturally and be exposed to these things?  I try to teach my children to wash their hands all the time
and use hand sanitizer.  I try to not use too many soaps
that are antibacterial because they can do more
harm than good over time.  It's about like taking
antibiotics too much.  The body becomes immuned
to antibiotics and they no longer work!
If you eat lots of fruits and veggies,
wash your hands and take vitamins it helps lots
to prevent or lessen any sicknesses.
The more you are exposed the better you become immuned.
Some shots I do not believe in unless absolutely necessary.
I also got a pneumonia shot last year because my family doctor
said I should have one.  Well guess what?
I still ended up with pneumonia!
So I have a hard time believing that these shots
work when I end up getting the things
they are supposed to prevent!
This is just my opinion and my beliefs as to what
has worked for me or my family.

8:09am

Sunrise this morning.
Supposed to have a warm up next week
with temps in the 40's maybe 50!
Then they are calling for much colder temps
again the week of the 14th.

8:40am

Why is it if I forget to put the trash can out the night before
for pick up and set it out the next morning
at 7:00am the trash truck has already come.
But any other given trash pick up day when I remember
to put it out the night before, he comes around 10am???

I'm still feeling miserable.  Body hurts and is throbbing
and my stomach feels raw.  I have felt so tired
these last couple of days.  I hate Crohn's flares
but at least I made it through the holidays.
Still trying to get around and do some things when
and while I can taking many rest breaks or even
times of lying on the couch with a few cat naps.

Today for supper I am making homemade
turkey pot pies with leftover turkey breast,
gravy and carrots.  Will add in some peas
and more gravy and use biscuits pressed in the
mini pie tins for the crust.

This weekend I'll be making 3 lasagnas.
I was given a box of lasagna noodles
in a food package for Christmas from the in-laws.
I'm trying to use up the rest of the turkey breast
(also from my in-laws for Christmas)
so will use thinly sliced turkey for the meat.
Plus I'll use a couple cheap cans of
4 cheese spaghetti sauce ($1.96 for 2), a couple of my .09 cent
Red Gold diced tomatoes (.18 cents)
I got last week and melted Aldi velveeta ($1.00)
style block cheese and call it lasagna.
So it will cost me about $3.14 to make
3 turkey lasagnas!

10:30am

Mom's taking me and the kids out to lunch
for an early birthday lunch for my son
who's birthday is Sunday.
He'll be turning 13!!!

12:35pm

Just got back from having lunch at Arbys
and an ice cream at Baskin Robbins for
my son's birthday coming up from grandma and grandpa.
I also had them stop by Aldi.
Hubby ran out of the Kroger brand Splenda sweetener
for his coffee.
I'm trying to cut corners and pinch my pennies at the moment
and remembered seeing what looked like
an Adli version of Splenda (Sweet Additions is the name)
when there the last time in a yellow bag.
They have it in 100 count packets for $1.99
or a large bag, which I got, for $3.99.
I don't remember how much Kroger brand
or Splenda is (maybe $6 to $10 or more)
but I'm sure I saved a bunch
by buying the Aldi brand instead.
Just stuck my finger in it to see what it tasted like.
I think it tastes like Splenda.

My Homemade Biscuit Potpies
